So my previous post from over the weekend, apparently failed! This might be due to my internet problems...but who knows! I will try to remember everything I wrote about in a new entry, and hope that this time, it will post!
I'm still loving my new position; I'm taking more and more complex babies every day. It must be a sign that I'm advancing my skills, and my co-workers feel that I am ready to take new challenges. I'm feeling more comfortable every day and I've even been advanced to some of the surgical babies, which is so exciting. One of the cardiac PA's authored a book on all of the cardiac anomalies, treatment of, and it is illustrated. I've been leafing through it on my down time, and it is really a great tool. I've learned so much. There are also lots of presentations that have been designed for educational purposes, plus lots of online education to complete as well. I absolutely love working in an environment that offers so much support for professional development. I have found that throughout the system, there is continual support for advancement within the nursing profession. Obviously, this is my ideal career, and I've found a welcoming home :)
My presentation was mostly uneventful. I had designed a PowerPoint previously that was set for being narrated, and had music playing along with the individually timed slides of pictures. I didn't have enough time to redo all of the extra's that I had, so I managed to download all of the pictures (I think!) that were in my original presentation, and then I created a playlist of the music that I wanted in the background. It was much easier, and although less sophisticated, I think it worked out well! I had a surprising attendance at my presentation, which was really nice. I hope that everyone was able to take away something from the presentation-I can only write or talk about stories....but it is hard to imagine the reality without pictures. The pictures I chose were very representative of our experience. I had thousands to sort through-probably well over 15,000 in all reality!
I am continuing to love my new location. It is so convienient for shopping, exploring and a great neighborhood to live in! The only downfall...is the amount of construction nearby, which well...it is Wisconsin, afterall. Construction is a season here. Tosa is no different!
I still get butterflies walking to work every morning. I have to giggle a little bit during my walk in. The massive "march of the nurses" (as I've affectionately named it) is pretty funny. From about 6:30 until 6:50, there is a continual stream of cheerful, brightly colored scrub-wearing nursing staff, of which the majority marches in time with stylish Dansko shoes. I fit right in with my extensive Dansko collection. I think my graduation gift to myself will be another pair. I can justify the expense, because I'm constantly on my feet-I need excellent support to make it through my 12 hour shifts. Just any old shoe, will simply *not* do! I suppose I could find a nice pair of tennis shoes, but leather ones are sturdier, easier to clean and look good with any outfit!
Till next time, Rose :)
