Quick note before Good Night!

So I have a few more ramblings to add...for those who want to know it is 2230 Local Time, which means it is 1430 CST. I've adjusted fairly well to the time change-no jet lag here! I used my 100% DEET spray today, and the sunscreen, so I have been very careful to not have issues with bugs or burns! I have an emergency phone, which for some reason, says that the only service I have right now is Emergency Only. I am afraid to make a call out, as to avoid ridiculous charges.
For JSN-Today when we were driving thru Kampala, after we were through the city we passed a bike race. Like, a real cycling event complete with team spandex and everything. As we were going highway-ish speeds, I didn't get a good look at the bikes. The grand prize for the bike race was a motor bike. All the men here seem to have motor bikes, and there are a lot of them who sit on the side of the road on the bikes and just watch traffic pass by. Also, we've gotten a lot of waves from the children here. All of the kids are just adorable! Monday starts our clinical time at Busoga University and the community hospital in Iganga, plus work in the orphanages and vision screening. It will be an overwhelming week, so I'm enjoying the relaxation while it lasts. I should add, that we are very fortunate to have really nice hotel rooms, with bathrooms that have running water. I didn't realize how in America, I completely take for granted running water-shower, toilet and sink. I have seen a lot of people hauling water in these large yellow containers, on bicycles, motor bikes and even walking. It seems that they are using water in low-lying places, and I am sure that it is not like the water we have in the hotel. Although, we are not even using the water here to brush our teeth-we have bottled water for that. Well, I am off to bed. We have an early breakfast tomorrow, and then we will be off to the falls and the source of the Nile river for the day! xoxo

  1. Hi Emily. RE: your phone - I sent an e-mail to the Zain rep in Canada from whom I bought the SIM card. I asked why (/what could be causing) your phone says "Emergency Service Only". To my knowledge, the only 2 things that can cause this are A) You are in an area with no Zain service or B) your SIM card has been deactivated. I'll let you know what he says. Love, Dad
